Surgical Technologist- Full-Time- Queens, NY- Many Shifts Available
Northwell FlexStaff, Elmhurst, NY
FlexStaff is seeking a dedicated and skilled Surgical Technologist to join our client’s dynamic surgical team. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, surgeon, or other healthcare professionals, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. You will assist in various capacities that contribute to patient care and surgical success in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare the operating room and sterile field for surgical procedures, including setting up surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment while ensuring proper functioning.
- Assist healthcare professionals in managing sterile solutions and medications during surgery.
- Verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedure prior to surgery.
- Aid in patient positioning and adhere to safety protocols throughout the surgical process.
- Maintain sterile techniques, including gowning and gloving.
- Assist surgeons during operations by anticipating instrument needs and managing the surgical field.
- Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments throughout procedures.
- Support in achieving hemostasis and ensuring surgical asepsis is maintained.
- Prepare bandages and dressings and assist with post-surgical care.
- Handle specimens appropriately for laboratory analysis.
- Participate in the cleaning of the operating room and replenishment of supplies post-procedure.
- Operate sterilizers, lights, suction machines, and assist with diagnostic equipment as needed.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and complete continuing education requirements.
Qualifications:
Level I:
- Documented designation of Grandfathered status as a Surgical Technologist; or
- Completion of an appropriate training program for Surgical Technologists in the military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Public Health Service); or
- Federal government service related to Surgical Technology practices.
Level II:
- Hold and maintain a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
- Surgical Technologists must hold and maintain a CST credential and complete fifteen (15) hours of continuing education annually.
